Stoneware and Wood

I have been a studio artist working in stoneware clay for many years, but Iíve also had a life-long interest in wood. Because the clay and wood are both raw products of our natural environment, I believe they share a unique relationship that can be expressed when they are used together.

By steam-bending and hand carving wood attachments to wheel thrown and hand-built ceramic forms, my work juxtaposes wood and clay, creating opportunities to study and contrast the texture, color, and form of each material within the context of functional and sculptural pieces.

Other work includes interpretive assemblies of found and made objects. These pieces emerge from a process of expressing, articulating and expanding upon the imagery of found objects, creating subjects for personal reflection.
